The Elk Neck Trails Association, Cecil County, Maryland |

he Elk Neck Trail is set up to run from the Turkey Point lighthouse at the southern tip of Elk Neck to the lighthouse in the North East Town Park. The one exception remains between Shady Beach and McKinneytown Roads. Turkey Point and its lighthouse are prominent features in Elk Neck State Park, and they offer a magnificent panorama of the Chesapeake Bay headwaters, which include the Susquehanna, North East, Elk, Bohemia and Sassafras rivers.
The Elk Neck Trail itself is marked by
a series of six inch high white
blazes icons with
two positioned to show a turn in the trail. Those in the State Park will soon be
on permanent posts, which will be placed by park personnel. The path runs primarily through
forested state park
lands and some private lands as well. We now to cross the
area around the Rodney Scout Camp.
The trail
cuts across private property where we have the landowner's
permission and goodwill. The
Association strongly encourages hikers to respect property rights and to
stay strictly on the path in these areas. As always, wherever we hike we
must avoid leaving any litter at all. If you see any, please
pick it up. See our
vision statement
for our long range plans and goals.
The Elk Neck Trails Association works to maintain and lengthen the trail. Each trail segment has a member who takes responsibility for its maintenance. If you would like a free copy of our trail map, click here or see the online version.
